Provides information, referral, and guidance on private insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare coverage plans. Educates individuals and families about their rights in the NJ Department of Banking and Insurance appeals process. Identifies and explains covered benefits, co-payments, deductibles, co-insurances, and maximum out-of-pocket limits for both in-network and out-of-network providers. Additionally, insurance specialists conduct conference calls with insurance companies as-needed or obtain written consent to inquire on behalf of those they assist.

Provides counseling and assistance to individuals on Medicare. The division can also offer clients explanations on supplemental or Medigap insurance policies.
Provides free help to New Jersey Medicare beneficiaries who have problems with, or questions about their health insurance. SHIP is a statewide program sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services with major funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Serves medicare beneficiaries of Union County with questions about Medicare for free, objective and confidential help.
Provides various in-house services, including information and referral, free blood pressure screening, annual health screenings (including mammograms and prostate screenings with MC Health Dept), health fairs, income tax preparation (with AARP), Medicare counseling (SHIP), access to a Surrogates Court representative, NJ Transit reduced fare ticket books, and Safe Housing grants. The center offers a range of activities, including recreational, social, and educational events and trips, with reservations required for many programs.

Educates individuals on benefits and entitlement programs they may be eligible for and provide enrollment assistance through HOPES Community Action Partnership (CAP). Support is available for Social Security, Medicaid/Medicare, Food Stamps/SNAP, health education, and discount phone and utility services, including Verizon Lifeline service, Assurance/Safelink Wireless, and Home Energy Assistance Programs.

SHIP volunteers receive intensive training from State Division of Senior Affairs in conjunction with State Department of Insurance.

Offers one-on-one information and counseling for Medicare beneficiaries to help them understand what benefits they are entitled to. Benefits include: Medicare parts A, B, and D coverage; Medigap; HMO; PPO; and long-term care policies.
Assisting New Jersey Medicare beneficiaries, the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) offers free help for those with health insurance concerns. Trained volunteer counselors provide information, aid with claims, and guide individuals in evaluating health insurance options. For newcomers to Medicare or those enrolling soon, SHIP counselors offer guidance on options, resources, and help in selecting the most suitable plan based on medical and financial status. During open enrollment (October 15 to December 7), counselors ensure existing coverage aligns with individuals' needs and is the best value. Counseling is free, and volunteers do not sell or endorse specific insurance products, providing information for informed decision-making.
Provides application assistance with the Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled program (PAAD), Senior Gold, Medicare Savings Plans (SLMB, Extra Help) and referrals for Medicaid.
Provides older adults health insurance counseling on Medicare coverage as well as assistance in understanding Medicare claims, filing claims, and comparison between health insurance policies.
Facilitates connections and referrals to off-site public and private social service resources, including information on economic self-sufficiency, employment-related services, income security services, local health care services, linkage to publicly-funded health insurance programs, and access to information on child, maternal, and family health services.
