Advocacy promotes and ensures the full inclusion of people with disabilities in the community. The staff directs efforts toward working with individual consumers, who face difficulties in areas of housing, employment, transportation, remaining independent in the homes, assists with completing applications for immigration, Social Security, and other financial benefit programs. Special services are also offered for underserved minorities who have disabilities.

Offers a Juvenile/Family Crisis Center, which is a 24 hour, legally mandated service designed to assist families who are experiencing serious difficulties in managing the behavior of children aged 10-17. Aids those in situations where the behavior of the children or parent results in a serious threat to the well-being and safety of the youth or other family members.

Establishes a comprehensive program whose objective is to gain equality, opportunity, and security for all people with disabilities through information and referral, outreach, advocacy, and legislation. Also works with county officials to maintain compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Barrier Free Code in their resolve to assure accessibility of all county buildings and programs.

Offers support, education, and connections to community-based mental health and social services for individuals with mental illness. Services include: mentoring and companionship for socialization and support; direct advocacy to link individuals with mental health, entitlements, housing, medical, legal, physical, self-help, wellness, educational, and recreational services; group services in boarding homes and other community-based locations; education; recreation; socialization; and advocacy. Engages in multicultural outreach to under-served populations and supports, advocates, and trains mental health service consumers to serve as advocates on community-based mental health boards, committees, and task forces.

Provides information to senior citizens, Adults with a disability, and Caregivers on available resources. This Includes food, housing, material goods, transportation and utilities. Also provides information about community agencies and organizations offering specialized services where available.

Provides programs and services that support those living with intellectual, cognitive, developmental, and physical disabilities; their families; and caregivers. Information, assistance, and referral is made to funded agencies as well as organizations that are designated to help those with living with specific disabilities. Screening for community services such as Medicaid, PASP, JACC, and others are available.

Operates as a clearinghouse, advocating for individuals with disabilities and delivering local-level technical assistance along with specialized information and referral services. Provides information about disability services, referrals to disability-specific agencies, advocacy for obtaining disability services, details on assistive devices, ADA issues, and disability-related housing renovations. Offers assistance with applications for NJ Temporary Disability and Social Security, prioritizing individuals mandated to apply by the Division of Social Services. Please note that financial assistance, Medicaid/Medicare services, housing, transportation, or any service unrelated to disability services is not provided by the Hunterdon County Office for the Disabled.

Supports Monmouth County residents with disabilities by offering various services, including providing information, referral, and advocacy for individuals and their families. Serves as a liaison to state and non-profit agencies, participates on advisory bodies, and monitors county government compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
