Provides outreach and case management to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness who have difficulty accessing services on their own behalf, are elderly homebound, or those incarcerated whose release from prison/jail is pending and not currently receiving any other case management services.

Assists defense teams in cases involving battered women by providing technical assistance on civil and criminal law matters, including identifying defense strategies, offering relevant case law and litigation materials, locating expert witnesses, identifying support networks for victim defendants, and suggesting additional sources of information and assistance. Additionally, offers information on promising practices for responding to domestic violence, accessible through a toll-free telephone line. Does not offer direct representation.

Provides jail diversion as an alternative to incarceration, discharge planning, linkage, and referral to community resources for offenders with mental illness who re-enter the community following their release from the Essex or Morris County Correctional System. Also educates law enforcement officers on mental health issues at local municipal levels.

Gives individuals access to apply for a Public Defender, as well as a directory of county Public Defender offices. Public Defenders can offer legal representation for: Criminal cases, Appeals, Parental rights cases (for both minors and parents), Juvenile defense, Drug cases, Sex offenders, Mental Health advocacy.

Assist to Improving justice outcomes for youth in New Jersey by advocating family and youth involvement, ending harmful practices, and reducing recidivism through leadership training, legal support, peer programs, awareness campaigns, professional training, and comprehensive data analysis.

Provides the information on offenders with intellectual / developmental disabilities, and acts as a liaison between the human service and criminal justice systems. Advocates for this population by providing the court system with a plan designed to be an alternative to incarceration. The program then provides case management services by monitoring the plan through the duration of the probationary sentence. In addition, the program provides consultation, education, training, technical assistance and program development to criminal justice and human service professionals.
