Provides to aid, empower and protect New Jersey's incapacitated elderly by furnishing outstanding individualized guardianship services. OPG acts as a surrogate decision maker for residents 60 years of age and over who have been deemed incapacitated by the Superior Court of New Jersey.

Gives individuals access to apply for a Public Defender, as well as a directory of county Public Defender offices. Public Defenders can offer legal representation for: Criminal cases, Appeals, Parental rights cases (for both minors and parents), Juvenile defense, Drug cases, Sex offenders, Mental Health advocacy.

Helps the child-client understand the child's legal rights and the court process, and keeps the child informed as the case progresses through the child welfare system. The Law Guardian counsels the child, gives legal advice about the most realistic course of action to protect the child's safety and advance the child's wishes and interests, and helps the child participate fully in court hearings.

Provides assistance on all matters affecting estates, guardianships and similar probate matters, New Jersey laws, rules of the court and case law involved in this area. The surrogate also determines the validity of wills, appointments of administrators of estates, and guardians of minors.

Services county residents by overseeing probate of wills, administration, guardianships, trusts, adoptions, management/investment of minors' funds, records, and wedding services. This office is responsible for certain statutory and assigned duties and functions related to wills, guardianships of minors and incapacitated people.

In addition to those services, the Surrogate is available for speaking at educational and service functions. Genealogical records are also available for family and background search.
