Golden Neighborhoods Homeownership Program (GNHP) | Jersey City Department of Housing, Economic Development and Commerce

Provides down payment and closing costs assistance for eligible low/moderate income families who want to purchase their first home. Also offers prospective homebuyers with the skills and knowledge necessary to purchase and maintain their own property.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria: - Purchasing their first home, and has not owned a home in the last 3 years - Minimum credit score of 640 - No bankruptcies or repossessions - Minimum savings of $1500 - Must attend Golden Neighborhoods Homeownership pre-purchase training - Must not enter into a contract of sale prior to receiving an eligibility certificate from the City of Jersey City - Housing must be a 1-4 family home or condominium, with compliance to Lead Based Paint Standards and local Housing Standards - Homeowner must remain in home for at least 10 years - HUD foreclosures, short sales, REO's and Handyman specials are not allowed - Preference will be given to individuals and families who live in Jersey City
