Atlantic Health System - Newton | Diabetes Self-Management Education Classes (DSME)
Empowering individuals with diabetes, Diabetes Self-Management Education Classes (DSME) and training collaboratively equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to modify behavior and successfully self-manage the disease and its related conditions. Led by licensed health professionals, the course, conducted on an individual and/or group basis, delves into crucial topics including the disease process, treatment options, nutrition management, physical activity, medication utilization, blood glucose monitoring, acute and chronic complication prevention and treatment, goal setting, problem-solving, psychosocial adjustment, and preconception care for those with applicable needs.

Application process
Please call to schedule an appointment for an initial assessment. A physician's referral will be required before attending the assessment. After the inital consultation, the patient will be moved into the group class portion of the program.
Fee
Most medical insurances, including Medicaid and Medicare, are accepted. Amount of coverage varies by insurance plan. Self-pay clients are charged a discounted rate of $19 per 30 minutes.Charity Care may be available through the Patient Financial Services department. Please call for more information.

Individuals with diabetes and their families, with particular focus on those who are newly diagnosed.
