RWJBarnabas Health - Nutrition Services | Diabetes Self-Management Education Classes (DSME)
Assisting individuals with diabetes, Diabetes Self-Management Education Classes (DSME) provide collaborative training where participants gain knowledge and skills to modify behavior and effectively self-manage the disease and related conditions. Guided by evidence-based standards and incorporating individual needs, goals, and life experiences, each session, comprising four classes and a follow-up, can be conducted on an individual and/or group basis. Facilitated by a licensed health professional, the course covers topics such as the disease process, treatment options, nutrition management, physical activity, medication use, blood glucose monitoring, complications prevention and treatment, goal setting, problem solving, psychosocial adjustment, and preconception care and pregnancy management if applicable.

Application process
Please call for more information and/or to register for classes. Participants are asked to arrive a half hour early to the first class.
Fee
$100 per class for self-pay clients. Medicare and most private medical insurances are accepted. Amount of coverage varies by insurance plan. Medicare can cover the class, only once in a lifetime. Please call for information.

Individuals with diabetes and their families, with particular focus on those who are newly diagnosed
