Kennedy Health System - Washington | Diabetes Self-Management Education Classes (DSME)
Empowers individuals with diabetes through collaborative Diabetes Self-Management Education Classes (DSME) and training, guiding them to modify behavior and successfully self-manage the disease. Facilitated by licensed health professionals, the course covers evidence-based topics such as the disease process, treatment options, nutrition management, physical activity, medication utilization, blood glucose monitoring, prevention and treatment of acute and chronic complications, goal setting, problem solving, psychosocial adjustment, and preconception care and management during pregnancy if applicable. Classes can be conducted individually or in groups.

Application process
A physician's referral will be required before registering. Those without a referral can receive assistance in obtaining one.
Fee
Most medical insurances, including Medicaid and Medicare, are accepted. Amount of coverage varies by insurance plan. Self-pay is also accepted on a sliding scale fee system based on income.Uninsured individuals may be eligible for financial assistance. Please call for information.
Eligibility
Individuals with diabetes and their families, with particular focus on those who are newly diagnosed.
