Provides referrals to moderate- and fixed-income households in financial crises and offers energy assistance, water payment support, and discounts on Verizon NJ telephone and broadband services. Energy assistance grants of up to $700 per utility cover gas and electric bills. The SUEZ Cares Program provides a $150 grant for water bills, and the New Jersey American Water H2O Help to Others Program offers up to $500 for water bills or a service charge discount. The AQUA New Jersey Aid Program provides grants of up to $150 for water service or up to $250 for combined water and sewer service. Additionally, the Verizon NJ Communications Lifeline Program offers discounts on residential telephone service and broadband for qualified low-income customers.

Most NJ SHARES programs require applicants to make a good faith payment in order to receive assistance: - Energy Assistance (gas/electric) requires a good faith payment of $100 within 90 days of applying for assistance. - New Jersey American Water assistance requires a good faith payment of $100 within 90 days of applying for assistance. - Suez North America / United Water assistance requires a good faith payment of $20 PRIOR to applying for assistance. - Verizon telephone assistance does NOT require a good faith payment.

Eligibility

Energy Assistance: -   have a moderate (not low) income level that is between 201% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Level -   be behind on their energy bill -   have a history of good-faith payments with their energy company -   not be eligible for LIHEAP or USF -   have made a good faith payment within 90 days of applying Water Assistance: -   be a New Jersey American Water, Suez, or Aqua New Jersey residential customer -   be experiencing a financial crisis, such as a job loss or illness -   be behind on their bill -   have made a good faith payment within 90 days of applying Telecommunication Assistance: -   be a Verizon residential customer -   be income eligible or qualify for government assistance
