Cooper University Hospital - Cherry Hill | Diabetes Self-Management Education Classes (DSME)
Provide Diabetes Self-Management Education Classes (DSME) collaboratively, empowering individuals with diabetes to modify behavior and successfully self-manage the disease and related conditions. Facilitated by licensed health professionals, the course covers topics like the disease process, treatment options, nutrition management, physical activity, medication utilization, blood glucose monitoring, complication prevention, goal setting, and psychosocial adjustment. Available on an individual or group basis, DSME caters to the person's needs and goals, guided by evidence-based standards. Additional diabetes-related classes offered include Moving Forward for type 1 diabetes, insulin pump classes, The Next Step for young adults transitioning to adult care, and a monthly support group for DSME course alumni.

Application process
A physician's referral will be required before registering. Those without a referral MAY receive assistance in obtaining one.Please call to schedule an appointment or to register for one of the classes.
Fee
$120 per class, or $600 for the entire course. Most medical insurances, including Medicare, are accepted. Amount of coverage varies by insurance plan. Medicare covers 10 hours of training. Please call for more information.

Individuals with diabetes and their families, with particular focus on those who are newly diagnosed
