Cape Regional Medical Center - Cape May Courthouse | Diabetes Self-Management Education Classes (DSME)

Assist children and adults with diabetes through collaborative Diabetes Self-Management Education Classes (DSME) and training. Participants gain knowledge and skills to modify behavior for successful self-management of the disease and related conditions, with a focus on individual needs, goals, and life experiences, guided by evidence-based standards. DSME, facilitated by licensed health professionals, can be conducted individually or in groups. The course addresses topics including the diabetes disease process, treatment options, nutrition management, physical activity, medication utilization, blood glucose monitoring, acute and chronic complication prevention and treatment, goal setting, problem solving, and psychosocial adjustment, including preconception care and pregnancy management if applicable.

Application process

A physician's referral will be required before registering. Those without a referral can receive assistance in obtaining one.

Fee

Most medical insurances, including Medicaid and Medicare, are accepted. Amount of coverage varies by insurance plan. Please call for information.

Eligibility

Individuals with diabetes and their families, with particular focus on those who are newly diagnosed.
